Plimpton’s “quad” roller skates were patented
On the 4th January, 1863, James Plimpton received a patent for his unique roller skate design, which employed four wheels and spring mechanisms.
The first donut cutter was patented by Capt. John Blondell, apparently so that he could put the donut over a handle of the wheel while navigating his ship.
