The Venera 5 probe was launched to inspect Venus

On the 5th January, 1969, U.S.S.R’s Venera 5 probe was launched to investigate the atmosphere on and around Venus. The probe was damaged, and never made it to Venus’s surface due to high pressures. Luckily, scientists were able to recieve 53 minutes of data before the probe became inoperable.
