The Weather Bureau of the U.S. (now the NWS) was formed
On the 9th February, 1870, the Weather Bureau of the United States, now known as the National Weather Service, was formed.
Alexander Graham Bell was one of the founders of the National Geographic Magazine. His uncle was actually the president of the society.
